Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler startup Simple Energy has introduced its first family-focused electric scooter, the Simple Wave, with an introductory starting price of Rs 1.10 lakh ex-showroom. The launch marks a strategic shift from the company's performance-focused One series toward practical mass market mobility. With six configurations across three variants, Simple Energy aims to strengthen its presence in India's expanding electric two-wheeler segment.

Launch Details and Model Lineup

The Simple Wave is available in Simple Wave S, Simple Wave, and Simple Wave+ variants, with battery capacities of 2.2 kWh, 2.7 kWh, 3.7 kWh, and 5 kWh depending on the configuration. The range topping Simple Wave+ delivers an IDC certified range of 243 km, a top speed of 90 kmph, and wheel torque of 179 Nm from a 6.4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor. Lower variants offer certified ranges of 171 km, 132 km, and 110 km respectively.

Design, Features and Charging

The Wave was developed around everyday family needs, featuring a 920 mm long seat and total storage of up to 70 litres. Its underseat compartment holds 63 litres, with a 3 litre glovebox and a 4 litre quick access pocket called Pill Storage. Depending on the selected model, the scooter offers a 7 inch TFT display or a 5 inch LCD screen, while higher variants add traction control, regenerative braking, hill hold assist, reverse mode, and crawl mode.

The Simple Wave supports portable chargers and fast charging on the top Simple Wave+ model. Simple Energy claims the 5 kWh battery can charge from 0 to 80 percent in a minimum of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The battery pack and motor carry IP67 rated protection, and the scooter uses a chain drive transmission.

Market Positioning and Company Expansion

Simple Energy competes with Ola Electric, Ather Energy, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Hero MotoCorp in the increasingly competitive electric two-wheeler market. The Wave enters shortly after new launches from Ola Electric and Ather Energy aimed at the mass market segment. These launches reflect a broader industry focus on affordable models, practical range, and commuter oriented designs beyond the premium early adopter base.

Currently, Simple Energy has a manufacturing capacity of 3,000 scooters per month and sells around 1,500 units monthly through more than 75 outlets across 63 cities. The company plans to increase monthly sales to 10,000 units by March 2027 by expanding production capacity and its retail network. In June, the startup raised Rs 250 crore in a mix of debt and equity to support its transition into a full stack EV original equipment manufacturer and prepare for a future IPO.

Industry Context and Next Steps

Electric two-wheeler registrations in India fell 16.2 percent month on month to 1.72 lakh units in August from 2.05 lakh units in July, according to Vahan data. However, registrations jumped 64 percent year on year from 1.05 lakh units in August last year. This indicates continued long term growth despite short term monthly fluctuations.

Bookings for the Simple Wave have opened through Simple Energy stores and the company website, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the last week of September. The exact prices of higher variants have not yet been disclosed, although the introductory starting price positions the Wave directly against the Ather Konarc, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida, and TVS iQube. Simple Energy expects its manufacturing capacity utilisation to rise to 75 to 80 percent by the end of the next financial year from around 35 percent currently.

Simple Energy's launch of the Wave signals a meaningful step toward mass market electric mobility in India. By combining strong range, practical storage, and family friendly ergonomics with a competitive starting price, the company is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the growing electric two-wheeler market. As deliveries begin and production scales, the Wave will test Simple Energy's ability to execute its expansion plans and stand out among established rivals.
