Dencom, a dental artificial intelligence company, announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul National University School of Dentistry and Seoul National University Dental Hospital. The agreement introduces an AI-based voice recognition charting tool into periodontal clinical education for dental students. The partnership is designed to explore new documentation methods and generate clinical data that can inform future educational improvements.

A New Model for Clinical Education

Students will use the voice recognition system during periodontal training to record measurements by speaking them aloud, which are then charted in real time. The initiative focuses on the periodontal treatment records that students create as part of their clinical education. By applying this method, the three organizations aim to assess usability, accuracy, and the educational value of AI-assisted charting.

Scope of the Collaboration

The agreement includes four main activities: applying the AI-based charting tool to graduate clinical training, verifying usability and recording accuracy in student practice environments, researching educational effects and limitations through generated data, and identifying future improvement tasks for dental education. The program is intended to produce evidence that can guide the evolution of clinical teaching. Findings from the project may support a broader shift toward data driven training in dentistry.

Institutional Roles

Seoul National University School of Dentistry will lead curriculum integration and establish student participation and supervision systems so the new recording method can be introduced into clinical practice. Seoul National University Dental Hospital will supply the treatment environment where student education occurs and support institutional review board procedures for lawful use of clinical information. Dencom will provide the AI-based periodontal voice charting tool, technical support, and training while helping validate and advance the technology through joint research.

Technology Foundation

Dencom offers an AI periodontal note solution called AI Perio Note, built on its dental-specific AI engine Densper. The company expects that exposing students to this technology during their education will help them become familiar with AI-based clinical documentation before entering practice. Dencom also operates the DentHub AI native platform and a real-time multilingual translation solution known as TransEra.

Data Privacy and Ethical Compliance

Voice recordings and treatment records generated during the educational program will be used only after approval from Seoul National University Dental Hospital's institutional review board and with patient consent. Patient information will be pseudonymized or anonymized and handled within hospital managed systems in accordance with relevant laws and internal procedures. The partners stated that patient information protection will be prioritized throughout the project.

Executive Perspectives

Park Young-seok, dean of Seoul National University School of Dentistry, said the partners will link the technology with the curriculum and develop AI-based dental education. Kim Sung-gyun, director of Seoul National University Dental Hospital, said students will gain exposure to new documentation methods while compliance and patient privacy remain priorities. Lim Byung-jun, CEO of Dencom, called the project meaningful and pledged support for research that could shift the educational paradigm.

The agreement marks another step toward integrating artificial intelligence into dental education and clinical training. By combining institutional expertise with an AI-based voice charting tool, the partners aim to improve student readiness and generate evidence for future teaching methods. The initiative highlights the growing role of healthcare data and AI in shaping the next generation of dental professionals.
