SEGNOS Inc., a research and development venture based in Chiba, Japan, has raised new capital through a third-party allotment of shares. The investment was made by TUAT1 Investment Limited Partnership, which is managed by BP Capital Inc. The company also announced that Masashi Tsuda has joined as director and chief operating officer, while its existing partnership with JNC Corporation will continue.

Funding Details and Strategic Use

SEGNOS has not disclosed the amount raised through the third party allotment. The company stated that the new funding will accelerate research and development activities in healthcare testing and in vitro diagnostics. The financing is being conducted with TUAT1 Investment Limited Partnership as the subscriber, operated by BP Capital Inc.

Leadership Expansion

Masashi Tsuda has joined SEGNOS as director and chief operating officer, overseeing management, strategic planning, and operations. He previously worked at a healthcare startup where he expanded sales channels for risk marker tests for cerebral infarction and myocardial infarction. He later supported academia and business development at a venture capital firm focused on research and development startups.

Continued Partnership with JNC

SEGNOS was established in February 2024 as a carve out from JNC Corporation, which remains a shareholder and technology licensor. The two companies have maintained a cooperative relationship since the founding of SEGNOS, according to the company. They will continue their alliance across both technology and capital support following the latest funding round.

Therma-Max Technology and AptIa Method

SEGNOS's core technology is Therma-Max, a temperature responsive magnetic nanoparticle developed by founder and president Noriyuki Onishi. He began researching the material at Chisso Corporation, now JNC Corporation, in 1987 and later completed doctoral research on thermoresponsive magnetic nanoparticles at Kobe University in 2009. The company combines Therma-Max with DNA aptamers developed by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in its proprietary AptIa detection method.

Performance Advantages

According to SEGNOS, the AptIa method has demonstrated one half to one tenth the cost, one half to one third the time, and one to ten times the sensitivity of conventional ELISA methods. The platform can potentially detect minute disease signals from small volumes of blood that existing testing methods may miss. These performance advantages support its use in high sensitivity diagnostic materials and testing kit development.

Investor Perspective

BP Capital executive officer Satoshi Hamada said he was moved by the innovation and potential of SEGNOS's technology. He added that the decision to invest was driven by admiration for Onishi's long term research and a strong desire to bring the technology to a wider market. Hamada also expressed confidence that Tsuda's involvement will help the business move forward.

The funding positions SEGNOS, founded in 2024 and headquartered in Chiba, Japan, to expand development of high-sensitivity diagnostic materials and testing kits for conditions that existing methods may miss. By strengthening its leadership team and maintaining its alliance with JNC, the company aims to translate its AptIa platform into practical diagnostic applications. SEGNOS's progress will be closely watched as it seeks to bring more sensitive and cost-effective testing to healthcare markets.
