Salary Hero, a Bangkok-based financial health platform, has raised US$7.6 million in a Series A equity funding round to support its expansion into Malaysia and improve access to workplace financial services. The round was led by Singapore venture firm Cento Ventures, with participation from Malaysia-based Kairous Capital and M Venture Partners. The company said the investment marks its official entry into the Malaysian market and follows growing demand for alternatives to high-cost informal lending.
Funding and Credit Facility Expansion
Alongside the equity raise, Salary Hero expanded its credit facility with regional lenders to US$10 million to strengthen its earned wage access operations. This facility funds on-demand pay, allowing employees to draw wages they have already earned before their scheduled payday. The company said the larger credit line reflects the strength of its repayment infrastructure and the depth of its employer integrations across the region.
Reducing Dependence on Predatory Lending
Salary Hero positions its platform as an alternative to high-cost informal lenders, which the company says can charge as much as 30% per month in interest or fees. In Thailand, the company currently works with more than 100 companies and over 300,000 employees. It estimates that workers have avoided about US$150 million in predatory loans through its earned wage access and financial well-being services.
Malaysia Expansion and Investor Support
Malaysia is Salary Hero's next growth market, with operations beginning in the second quarter of 2026. The company expects to work with 50 corporate partners in the country by the end of 2027. Kairous Capital managing partner Joseph Lee said the firm is backing Salary Hero to reach the bottom 40% of Malaysian households by income, while Cento Ventures partner Ali Fancy said the product fits naturally into the workplace.
Technology and Workforce Analytics
The new funding will also support the development of technology for corporate HR teams and deeper workforce analytics. Salary Hero's tools are designed to analyze anonymized workforce data and identify patterns in employee turnover across locations, teams, shifts, and tenure groups. Because earned wage access requires funds to be available before payroll settlement, the expanded credit facility provides essential capital for these transactions.
Operating Model and Market Context
Salary Hero's expansion comes amid concerns about household financial resilience and the use of unlicensed moneylenders, locally known as Ah Longs in Malaysia. The company plans to build its Malaysian presence through corporate partnerships, using existing relationships with regional businesses to support market entry. Salary Hero works directly with employers to embed earned wage access into their payroll cycles, helping employees avoid high-cost borrowing between paydays.
Financial Well-Being Services
Beyond earned wage access, Salary Hero offers budgeting tools and financial education as part of its employee financial well-being services. The company integrates with employers' payroll and HR systems to help workers manage expenses between paydays and avoid short-term borrowing. These tools help human resources teams understand employee retention challenges and support broader financial resilience across the workforce.
Salary Hero was founded by Prabhav Rakhra and Jonathan Nohr and operates as a financial health platform focused on earned wage access and employee financial well-being. The company integrates with employers' payroll and HR systems to provide wage access, budgeting, and financial education services. Following its entry into Malaysia in the second quarter of 2026, Salary Hero is working to expand its corporate partnerships across the region.
