Red Hat announced on October 22, 2026 that it has introduced its APAC AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board. The new facility is designed to help organizations move beyond artificial intelligence experimentation and into production deployment. It will use Red Hat's open source technologies and engineering expertise to address enterprise AI needs across the region.

Addressing Regional Enterprise AI Demand

The Centre responds to growing regional demand for trusted, enterprise-ready AI. Its engineering teams will develop reusable software architectures for common industry challenges and contribute code directly to upstream open source projects. These contributions address enterprise requirements in system deployment, runtime optimization, and platform management while keeping development roadmaps grounded in customer needs across Asia Pacific.

Collaboration with Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency

Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency is collaborating with Red Hat to explore and co-develop AI and cloud-native solutions. The partnership will apply Red Hat's open source technologies to strengthen capabilities that DSTA can then use in defense applications. This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and deployment of AI solutions so that DSTA can address evolving defense requirements more effectively.

Production Necessities and Multi-Cloud Operations

Drawing on Red Hat's open source expertise and DSTA's engineering capabilities and defense domain knowledge, both organizations will develop scalable solutions in AI, cloud computing, application modernization, and edge computing. The work will support multi-cloud operations and include joint architectures for Development, Security and Operations and Day 2 operations at scale across on-premise and off-premise environments. These efforts are intended to enable greater agility for DSTA in anticipating and addressing evolving defense requirements in the AI era.

Nurturing Local Talent and Innovation

The AI Centre includes a dedicated innovation team comprising engineers, forward-deployed engineers, architects, and project managers focused on successful AI and machine learning deployments in customer environments. Red Hat will also support skills development in software engineering, automation, cloud-native development, and DevSecOps for customers and partners. These efforts aim to strengthen in-region technical capabilities and nurture local talent within Singapore's broader AI ecosystem.

Executive Views on the Centre

Daniel Aw of Red Hat Asia Pacific said AI adoption is moving rapidly from experimentation toward execution, and organizations need open platforms and hands-on engineering expertise to make that transition responsibly. He noted that EDB's support enables Red Hat to grow the Centre in Singapore, while the DSTA collaboration demonstrates how it can apply to complex, real-world use cases. Yueh Chinn Seah of Digital Industry Singapore added that the Centre bolsters Singapore's position as a key AI hub.

Alignment with Singapore's National AI Strategy

The Centre aligns with Singapore's National AI Strategy by contributing talent, technology, and real-world use cases to the country's AI ecosystem. Basing these engineering capabilities in Singapore shortens the feedback loop between customers, partners, and Red Hat's core product teams. This connection accelerates solution delivery and strengthens Red Hat's ability to co-innovate with organizations across Southeast Asia and beyond.

Red Hat's APAC AI Centre of Excellence represents a significant step toward practical enterprise AI deployment in the Asia Pacific region. By combining EDB support, open source engineering expertise, and co-engineering with DSTA, the Centre provides a model for translating AI capability building into real innovation. It is expected to benefit both Singapore's defense technology community and the wider regional enterprise ecosystem.
