Quandela has signed a memorandum of understanding with CMC Microsystems to join Canada's Quantum Computing Sandbox as a cloud based photonic quantum computing provider. The agreement gives small and medium sized enterprises, organizations, and academic researchers access to a Canada based photonic quantum computing platform. The initiative is designed to accelerate the development of quantum solutions across a wide range of industrial and strategic fields.
Expanding the Quantum Computing Sandbox
The Quantum Computing Sandbox is supported by FABrIC, an organization funded by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. CMC Microsystems manages FABrIC on behalf of the Government of Canada as a nonprofit organization focused on affordable access to advanced technology tools. The program provides technical support and research grants to foster quantum application development for Canadian industrial sectors and national strategic projects.
Data Sovereignty and Cloud Access
The inclusion of a Canada based photonic quantum computer addresses growing concerns about data sovereignty in the digital realm. Valérian Giesz, co founder and director of strategic partnerships at Quandela, said the company is proud to be the first to offer such a platform through the Quantum Computing Sandbox. He explained that participants will be able to keep their work and data entirely on Canadian soil without relying on infrastructure in another country.

The memorandum also establishes a framework for supporting companies and organizations whose high potential projects gain access to the sandbox. Quandela and CMC Microsystems will jointly provide technical and practical assistance to these selected participants. Since certain algorithms perform better on specific computing architectures, the addition of Quandela gives participants access to a more diverse set of tools. Giesz noted that integrating Quandela strengthens the options available for research, prototyping, and implementing quantum solutions. He added that this diversity makes the Quantum Computing Sandbox more attractive to companies investing in both quantum solution development and quantum computing itself.
