Popcorn AI Studio, a Dubai-based artificial intelligence platform focused on video creation, has secured US$1 million in Pre-Seed funding to advance its ambition of making cinematic filmmaking accessible to more storytellers. The investment was led by Emirati entrepreneur and investor Mohammed Bin Bouta Alharsoosi. The company announced the funding on October 18, 2026 as it prepares for regional expansion and continued development of its AI-powered creative tools.

Strategic Backing and Growth Plans

The fresh capital will support Popcorn AI Studio across technology development, international expansion, and the evolution of its integrated creative platform. The company was founded by Egyptian entrepreneurs Shady Essam and Mohamed Hedar, who aim to challenge the assumption that high-quality cinematic content requires large budgets and complex workflows. With this funding, Popcorn plans to scale its user base in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt while building partnerships that bring AI filmmaking to new creators worldwide.

An Integrated AI Filmmaking Platform

Unlike conventional AI video generators that force users to juggle multiple tools and disconnected workflows, Popcorn brings the creative process into one integrated environment. The platform offers specialized AI studios that allow creators, filmmakers, agencies, and brands to develop concepts, build characters, generate cinematic scenes, and produce commercial videos. A defining strength is its focus on Arabic language content, including native Arabic lip sync and support for regional dialects, which addresses a significant gap in the global AI video market.

Creative Empowerment and Market Opportunity

The company positions its technology as a new creative infrastructure rather than a simple automation tool. Popcorn enables faster experimentation for filmmakers, scalable content production for brands, and a lower entry barrier for emerging storytellers. Its founders believe the greatest opportunity lies in creative empowerment rather than replacing human filmmakers, and this philosophy underpins the company's product direction.

Regional Focus and Community Engagement

Popcorn AI Studio has also moved beyond product development by engaging directly with the filmmaking community. The company announced an AI filmmaking competition connected to the El Gouna Film Festival, with a US$70,000 prize pool to support emerging filmmakers. This initiative reflects its commitment to accelerating AI-powered storytelling across the Middle East and North Africa, a region where the content market is large and AI adoption remains in its earliest stages.

Leadership and Vision

Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Shady Essam previously founded and led Dmenta through its acquisition by a regional media group. Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Mohamed Hedar brings experience from senior marketing and growth roles at Alshaya Group and Al Tayer Group. Angel investor and advisor Maram Hamam, whose portfolio companies have raised more than US$120 million, also supports Popcorn's investment strategy and expansion across Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC.

With US$1 million in Pre-Seed funding and a product built for Arabic language and cultural authenticity, Popcorn AI Studio is positioned to influence video production in the region and beyond. Official partnerships with the El Gouna Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival strengthen its credibility within the creative sector. As artificial intelligence reshapes film economics, Popcorn aims to ensure that compelling ideas, rather than access to expensive infrastructure, determine what reaches the screen.
