Particle, a startup founded by former Twitter engineers, is redefining its mission by shifting from an AI-powered news reader to a dedicated podcast intelligence platform. The company has introduced Radar, a search and discovery service that transcribes and indexes spoken content from more than 130,000 podcasts. This strategic move has already attracted interest from hedge funds and other organizations that rely on timely, searchable audio data.

A Strategic Pivot Toward Audio Intelligence

The original Particle news reading app surfaced relevant podcast clips alongside related news stories, a feature that quickly became popular among users. As the ecosystem around AI agents expanded, the team realized that this capability was too valuable to remain confined inside a single application. The company therefore decided to develop a standalone API that could serve audio intelligence to platforms, agents, and enterprises.

How Radar Indexes and Organizes Audio

Radar transcribes more than 130,000 podcasts, making it the largest transcribed podcast service currently available. Its index includes all Apple Top 200 podcasts across 135 verticals and adds about 20,000 new episodes every day. Each transcript features speaker labels and rich metadata that identify the people, companies, brands, products, and topics under discussion.

Alerts, Search, and Audio Clips

Users can configure alerts to monitor mentions of specific entities and receive updates via email, Slack, or webhook. The search experience can be filtered by guest, topic, or podcast prominence, allowing precise discovery across the index. Radar also extracts self-contained audio clips with timestamps so that users can both read and listen to the most relevant comments without reviewing entire episodes.

Commercial Traction and Pricing

Hedge funds have become the highest volume customers that directly integrate with Radar's API, according to Particle co-founder and CEO Sara Beykpour. AI search platforms and data resellers are also among the top paying users, alongside journalists and researchers who benefit from audio search. Pricing starts at $29 per month per seat, while business plans cost $399 per month for 20 seats and API access is custom priced.

Podcast Advertising and Additional Data

Radar also offers a dedicated podcast ads search engine that identifies every episode where a given company advertises and tracks how that presence changes over time. The platform provides additional data tools including political bias analysis, chart rankings, audience size estimates, sponsorship information, and brand suitability. These features create further monetization opportunities for companies that need structured intelligence across spoken media.

Future Expansion Beyond Podcasts

Particle plans to expand Radar beyond podcast content to include other audio formats such as YouTube videos and news clips. The company's broader vision is to make all new media intelligence and audio intelligence available through a single API. Since most AI agents and services focus only on text crawling, Particle aims to provide the missing audio layer that agents currently cannot access.

Radar represents a significant shift for Particle from a consumer news application to a data infrastructure provider serving financial firms, search platforms, and media professionals. By transforming unstructured spoken conversations into searchable, analyzable data, the company is addressing a growing demand for audio intelligence in the AI ecosystem. As the platform expands, it could become a foundational tool for discovering and monitoring the rapidly growing world of podcast and spoken media content.
