Origin, a full-stack physical AI company building general-purpose robots for interior construction, emerged from stealth on October 15, 2026 with US$20 million in total funding. The round was co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, with participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, Z21, ISAI, and Imad Ventures. The company will use the capital to deploy its flagship OG-1 robot, expand its fleet, and launch large-scale pilots with contractors in the United States and Europe.
Labor Shortages and Construction Demand
Origin is addressing an industry under pressure from rising demand for housing, factories, warehouses, and AI data centers. A 2026 survey found that worker shortages delayed projects for 42% of responding U.S. construction firms. Contractors are being asked to deliver more with fewer skilled workers, while rising costs and inconsistent quality stretch schedules and limit revenue.
OG-1 Designed for Real Job Sites
OG-1 is Origin's flagship robot, built to perform multiple interior construction trades on one modular platform. It autonomously completes wall finishing workflows, including applying compound, sanding, and priming walls to a professional standard. The three-wheeled robot works at heights of up to 14 feet, handles corners, pillars, soffits, and edges, and uses real-time force control for contact-rich tasks such as sanding.
A Foundation Model for Construction
OG-1 is powered by Origin's Construction Action Model, a foundation model created specifically for construction work. It brings together a reasoning system, an action policy, and a controller to plan complex subtasks, navigate autonomously, use tools, and assess quality. The model is trained on high-fidelity simulation and live job site data, allowing it to adapt to changing site conditions and generalize across different environments.
Early Deployment and Customer Pilots
Origin deployed its first robots on job sites in New York within 10 months of its founding. Today OG-1 is used across commercial spaces, multi-family apartments, data centers, hotels, and warehouses, working alongside construction crews on physically demanding tasks and hazardous work at height. The company is preparing for customer pilots globally, including two of the largest drywall finishing contractors in the United States and projects in Germany, Sweden, France, and Saudi Arabia.
Market Momentum and Expansion Plans
Origin's platform is ready for manufacturing at scale, and the company is targeting 150 robots deployed by the end of 2027. It plans to support additional interior trades such as taping, drywall installation, drilling, and conduit installation using the same hardware platform and Construction Action Model. The announcement follows accelerating investment in construction robotics, with venture funding reaching US$1.36 billion in the first three quarters of 2025, up 125% from all of 2024.
Origin was founded in early 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga, and Tushar Makkar, who spent 18 months building before emerging from stealth to prove their robots on real job sites. The company says OG-1 is already working at three times human speed while delivering human-level quality across different site conditions. With robots still accounting for less than 0.03% of global construction spend, Origin's debut signals meaningful room for growth in physical AI for the built environment.
