OrbiMed, a leading global healthcare investment firm, has announced US$3 billion in commitments for two new private equity funds. The new vehicles are OrbiMed Private Investments X and OrbiMed Asia Partners VI, which together will target a broad range of healthcare opportunities. The announcement, made on October 15, 2026, reflects the firm's continued ability to raise substantial capital for specialized life sciences investing.

Fund Composition and Investment Mandates

OrbiMed Private Investments X raised over US$1.9 billion to invest in life sciences venture capital opportunities in the United States and Europe. OrbiMed Asia Partners VI raised over US$1 billion for healthcare growth equity and venture capital investments across Asia. Both funds seek to build leading healthcare companies focused on biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and technology-enabled healthcare services.

The larger fund will concentrate on venture capital activity in Western markets, where life sciences innovation remains highly active across biopharmaceuticals and medical technology. The Asia-focused fund will support healthcare companies in a region that has become increasingly important to global biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing. These parallel mandates allow OrbiMed to pursue distinct geographic opportunities while maintaining a unified focus on building durable healthcare businesses.

The new capital will be deployed across companies at different stages of development, from early stage venture investments to growth equity opportunities. OrbiMed's dual fund structure allows it to tailor its approach to the regulatory and market conditions in each region. This flexibility is expected to support a diverse pipeline of healthcare businesses.

Leadership Perspectives on Innovation

Carl Gordon, a managing partner at OrbiMed, said, "There has never been a more exciting time to invest in life sciences innovation." He noted that artificial intelligence, a proliferation of new therapeutic modalities, and China's emergence as a biotechnology powerhouse are expanding opportunities to develop transformative treatments. Gordon added that the firm looks forward to helping entrepreneurs turn these advances into leading healthcare companies.

Another managing partner, Carter Neild, expressed gratitude for the continued support of the firm's many long-standing investors. Neild said the team will work tirelessly over the coming years to meet those investors' high expectations. His comments reflect the firm's emphasis on stewardship, discipline, and strong long-term performance for its limited partners.

Investor Base and Global Footprint

Investors in the new funds include medical institutions, university endowments, foundations, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices. This broad base reflects strong institutional confidence in OrbiMed's healthcare investment strategy and track record. The firm is led by 20 partners and supported by more than 150 professionals across 12 global locations.

OrbiMed's team brings complementary expertise in company incubation, strategy, operations, and finance across the healthcare sector. Its global footprint spans key healthcare markets, allowing the firm to source, evaluate, and support opportunities in both established and emerging innovation hubs. This operational infrastructure helps portfolio companies scale from early stage research to growth stage commercialization.

With US$3 billion in fresh commitments, OrbiMed is positioned to deepen its influence across the life sciences and healthcare investment landscape. The two new funds give the firm dedicated capital to capture innovation in Western markets and high growth opportunities across Asia. The raise reinforces OrbiMed's standing as one of the largest and most specialized healthcare investment firms globally.
