Nigerian startup ORB has launched an innovative platform to centralize the discovery of nightlife and social events, tackling a long-standing fragmentation in the country's vibrant entertainment scene. Founded by Emmanuel Adepoju and Abisoye Bello, the application aims to simplify how people find and engage with local happenings. By providing a seamless experience from discovery to participation, the platform eliminates the need for users to consult multiple disparate sources.

Addressing a Fragmented Discovery Landscape

Co-founder Emmanuel Adepoju highlighted the common struggle for event-goers, who currently navigate a maze of social media platforms just to plan their weekends. He explained that people often piece together information from WhatsApp groups, Instagram stories, and word-of-mouth, a process that is both inefficient and unreliable. ORB was created to directly address this specific gap by offering a single, dedicated, and trustworthy source for social discovery.

A Niche-Specific Solution for Nightlife

Unlike general event platforms, ORB is built specifically for the spontaneity and social dynamics inherent to nightlife culture. Its core features include an interactive heatmap showing real-time hotspots, and "Orb Snaps" which allow users, venues, and even celebrities to share live updates. The platform also incorporates unique social elements like sending virtual drinks via Orb Points, VIP ticketing, and table reservations directly within the app.

Adepoju emphasized that existing platforms like Eventbrite or Facebook Events are not tailored for the unique demands of the clubbing and nightlife niche. He stated that every feature on ORB, from live-streaming to community groups, is designed with nightlife behavior in mind, rather than being bolted on as an afterthought. This focus allows the platform to serve a vibrant Nigerian market that is currently deeply underserved by dedicated technology solutions.

Initial Success and Strategic Expansion Plans

The self-funded startup has already demonstrated promising early traction through a successful test event held in partnership with GOAT Entertainment. This crucial pilot drew approximately 300 attendees and provided valuable, real-world data on user engagement and how they interact with the platform's features. The positive feedback and engagement from this initial launch have confirmed that the market demand for such a service is significant and real.

With a proven concept and encouraging early signals, ORB is now preparing for its next phase of growth and is actively looking to secure investment. The founders plan to use the funding to fuel a strategic expansion, first across key cities in Nigeria and then into other major African markets. They believe the timing is perfect to capitalize on the substantial opportunity within the continent's burgeoning and tech-receptive entertainment sector.

ORB is strategically positioned to redefine the nightlife and event discovery category in Nigeria by providing a purpose-built, technology-driven solution for a clear market need. By entering what its founders describe as essentially unclaimed territory, the platform has the potential to become the go-to resource for social experiences across the continent. Its successful pre-launch and clear vision for expansion signal a promising future for the burgeoning startup in Africa's dynamic market.
