OpenAI and Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation have launched an eight-week accelerator for Thai AI startups. The OpenAI x MHESI AI Accelerator will support 10 companies working across healthcare, wellness, and education. It is OpenAI’s first public-private partnership with the Thai government focused specifically on supporting local startups.
Strengthening Thailand’s AI Startup Ecosystem
The program comes as Thailand experiences rapid growth in the adoption of generative AI tools among developers, entrepreneurs, and businesses. According to OpenAI, Thailand ranks among the world’s top 20 countries for weekly active ChatGPT users, while weekly active Codex usage in the country has increased more than 350-fold since the beginning of 2026. The accelerator aims to convert this growing technical engagement into reliable products capable of addressing practical needs in Thailand and eventually competing in international markets.
Ten Startups Join the First Cohort
The inaugural cohort includes five companies focused on medical and wellness applications and another five developing technologies for education, two areas considered important to Thailand’s long-term development. Participating startups are CARIVA, Wello Food, Dietz, Precisionize, FitSloth, Curico, insKru, Floaino, EasyKids Robotics, and Globish, selected with support from the National Innovation Agency, the Ministry of Education, and MHESI’s innovation network. Several of the companies also participated in the AIAT x OpenAI Codex Hackathon Bangkok earlier in 2026, creating a pathway from early experimentation toward more structured product development.
Technical and Commercial Support
Throughout the eight-week program, participating founders will work with mentors from OpenAI and specialists across Thailand’s technology, research, academic, and entrepreneurial communities to strengthen their products and prepare them for deployment. Each startup will receive US$2,000 in OpenAI API credits, one-on-one technical guidance, access to OpenAI’s latest frontier models, and a dedicated mentor, alongside weekly sessions covering engineering, product design, automated testing, responsible AI, security, cost management, growth, and fundraising. MHESI will connect participants with research and talent networks, NIA will provide links to funding and growth opportunities, and Mahidol University will contribute academic expertise and mentoring.
Moving AI Products Into Real-World Use
Each startup will establish a specific product, pilot, evaluation, or commercial milestone, with teams expected to finish the accelerator with a working product or significant upgrade, user evidence, initial evaluation results, and a credible implementation strategy. CARIVA, for example, is developing a multilingual voice agent for hospital phone lines that can manage routine requests and identify potential medical emergencies, while Curico is building AI-powered learning tools for children, families, and educators. CARIVA plans to test its system in a hospital environment, while Curico aims to expand pilots across childcare centers, train teachers, test AI-assisted grading, and grow its family learning platform.
The accelerator will conclude with a Demo Day in Bangkok in November, where startups will present their products and growth plans. The event will connect participating companies with investors, government agencies, universities, hospitals, schools, and potential customers. OpenAI and its partners aim to establish a repeatable model for helping Thai AI startups move from prototypes to real-world deployment and international growth.
