Nauta Capital has announced the first close of its sixth fund at €60 million, marking twenty years since the firm raised its first institutional venture capital vehicle in 2006. The fund will back European B2B software and deep tech companies from Pre-Seed to Series A. The close includes an anchor investment from the British Business Bank alongside a mix of institutional and family office investors.
Fund Size and Investor Base
The first close brings together repeat and new limited partners from the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The British Business Bank is anchoring Nauta for the fourth time and is joined by SETT, Merifin Capital, and Institut Català de Finances. Other institutions and family offices also participated in the closing.
Target and Assets Under Management
About 75% of investors in this closing are returning backers from previous Nauta funds, while the remainder are new relationships. Nauta is on track to reach a total fund size of between 150 million and 200 million euros in the second half of 2027. That would bring the firm's assets under management close to 750 million euros.
A Two Decade Track Record
Nauta launched its first institutional fund of 50 million euros in 2006 during the post-Web 2.0 period and initially focused on B2B software and cybersecurity pioneers. The firm subsequently invested through the mobile, cloud, artificial intelligence, automation, and quantum computing shifts across its subsequent funds. Today Nauta operates from London and Barcelona, has backed more than 200 founders across 100 companies, and has achieved almost 3 billion euros in exit value through more than 25 exits.
Investment Strategy
Nauta predominantly backs capital-efficient software companies disrupting large vertical markets such as travel, finance, retail, and HR. Through its Nauta Labs initiative within the same fund, the firm also supports Pre-Seed deep tech startups in areas including high performance computing, AI infrastructure, cybersecurity, industrial automation, digital health infrastructure, and energy frontier technology. This dual approach combines established B2B software opportunities with emerging frontier technology bets.
Portfolio Momentum
Universal Quantum, a Nauta portfolio company building a million-qubit quantum computer, recently raised a US$100 million Series A, the largest Series A ever for a UK-headquartered quantum firm. Other portfolio names include Lodgify for short-term rental management, Unravel for AI-powered travel discovery and booking, and Acai Travel for AI agents that manage travel customer support. Netbird, an open-source cybersecurity company based in Berlin, was backed at Pre-Seed and has since closed a US$10 million Series A.
Executive Perspective
Carles Ferrer Roqueta, Nauta's London-based General Partner, said enduring venture firms are built on discipline, adaptability, and long-term conviction, and that every generation of technology brings a new wave of exceptional companies. He emphasized that this philosophy has helped Nauta reach its sixth fund. He added that the firm is excited about shaping the next era of European innovation.
Investor Perspective
Michael Laycock, Investment Director for Funds at the British Business Bank, said the long-standing partnership with Nauta demonstrates how the bank can attract international investors to the UK. He noted that since the first commitment, Nauta has built a substantial presence in London and established the UK as a core investment market. This helps bring more capital, expertise, and international connections into the UK venture ecosystem and strengthens it over the long term.
The first close of Nauta Capital's sixth fund underscores the firm's staying power and continued access to institutional capital across multiple geographies. With a target of up to 200 million euros and a broad remit spanning B2B software and deep tech, Nauta is positioned to support the next generation of European founders from Pre-Seed through Series A. The milestone also reinforces the role of public and private investors in sustaining a competitive venture ecosystem.
