New York-based fintech Mural has raised $15 million in a Series A round led by Tether, bringing its total funding to $28 million. North Island Ventures and existing investors also participated in the financing, announced on October 20, 2026. The fresh capital will support international expansion and infrastructure designed for financial services used by businesses and artificial intelligence agents.
Funding and Strategic Priorities
The company plans to invest in payment capabilities, regulatory coverage, and the banking relationships needed to serve customers across different jurisdictions. Mural also intends to recruit additional employees and strengthen the technology supporting international transactions and account management. The funding follows earlier investment rounds, although the company has not disclosed its valuation following the Series A.
Tether's involvement highlights a growing interest in bringing stablecoin infrastructure into mainstream financial operations. As the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, Tether is backing a business that connects blockchain payment networks with conventional banking and compliance systems. North Island Ventures' participation adds another investor to Mural's effort to simplify the infrastructure behind international financial products.
Building an Integrated Financial Platform
Founded in 2022 by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, Mural develops software for fintech companies and digital platforms. Its offering combines account services, payments, identity verification, and compliance management within a unified system. The approach is designed to reduce the need for businesses to coordinate multiple financial providers when operating across borders.
Mural supports transactions involving traditional dollars, local currencies, and stablecoins, while connecting clients to payment networks and relevant banking services. Its engineers work directly with customers in individual markets to implement products and address operational requirements. The company positions this model as an alternative to building and maintaining separate integrations for every market and payment method.
Customer Adoption and Transaction Growth
Mural identifies Deel, Opera, and Axexo among the companies using its infrastructure to support financial products, including payroll and remittances. Since introducing its application programming interface in 2025, it reports processing $2.1 billion in payments for end users spanning 128 countries. Transaction volume recorded during 2026 through the announcement date was nearly six times its volume for the entirety of 2025.
Preparing Payments for AI Agents
Alongside its cross-border payment business, Mural is developing infrastructure for AI agents authorized to initiate financial transactions on behalf of users. The platform incorporates spending limits, restrictions on approved counterparties, and additional approvals for larger transfers. It also maintains records of financial actions, creating oversight mechanisms intended to identify who authorized particular transactions.
Mural argues that these safeguards could become increasingly important as businesses allow software agents to interact with financial systems. The company cited research from McKinsey and Artemis Analytics estimating that real-world stablecoin payments reached approximately $390 billion in 2025, more than double the previous year's figure. That growth provides a wider context for its efforts to connect traditional finance, stablecoins, and automated payment workflows.
International Expansion
The latest capital will be used to broaden Mural's regulatory and licensing presence while adding more markets to its payment network. Its expansion plans include strengthening the local infrastructure required to deliver services in jurisdictions with differing financial rules. Mural is not a bank, and its services rely on licensed entities and banking partners in the jurisdictions it serves.
Mural's $15 million Series A gives the company additional resources to scale its payments platform and support new forms of automated financial activity. Its reported transaction growth and international customer reach indicate momentum, while its expansion will require continued investment in regulatory infrastructure. With Tether and North Island Ventures among its backers, the company is positioning its integrated platform for a broader role in cross-border and agent-enabled finance.
