Brazilian healthtech Matria has raised US$6.5 million in a Seed funding round led by Astella, a Brazilian investment firm. The round included Endeavor Scale Up Ventures, Floating Point, FluentVC, and follow-on participation from Afya, alongside healthcare angel investors such as surgeon Paulo Chapchap. The Belo Horizonte-based company plans to use the capital to expand in Brazil and Mexico while strengthening its product, engineering, and sales teams.

Funding and investor backing

According to the company, the Seed round brings Matria's total funding to R$50 million since its founding. Astella led the investment, with participation from Endeavor Scale Up Ventures, Floating Point, FluentVC, and a follow-on from Afya. Paulo Chapchap, a surgeon and former director of Hospital Sírio-Libanês, joined as an investor and board chairman.

Technology and data infrastructure

Matria develops artificial intelligence agents that operate on its Healthcare Data Fabric, a proprietary layer that connects hospital management, billing, and care systems. The platform converts unstructured data into patient context, enabling automated exam scheduling, payment organization, and checks of pending clinical items. This approach addresses a longstanding healthcare bottleneck, as the gap is often not a lack of data but a lack of connection between data sources.

Product portfolio

The company's products include a call center agent that handles text, audio, and voice interactions and converts inquiries into appointments. A clinical copilot structures consultation records and gives physicians the patient context needed for informed decisions. Matria also offers a concierge agent that identifies outstanding tests or care needs and guides patients to book the necessary visits.

Origins and leadership

Matria was founded in 2023 by João Vitor Inecco, a physician and entrepreneur who previously served as an innovation consultant at Dasa and as CEO of Incor Minas in Belo Horizonte. The company was initially named Marisa Care in honor of his grandmother, Marisa Inecco, who died from a late diagnosed breast cancer. Inecco has said that earlier treatment might have been possible if her medical information had been connected in an integrated system.

Market traction and expansion

Matria reports more than 100 clients in Brazil's private healthcare market, including Rede D'Or, Rede Américas, and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. The company opened operations in Mexico last year, where MAC Hospitales became its first client and the market now accounts for 20% of revenue. Mexico has 26 Matria clients, and the startup sees the country as a less digitalized but higher ticket healthcare market.

Growth plans and outlook

The new capital will accelerate engineering, deepen data infrastructure, and expand commercial operations, according to Matria. The company says it grew ninefold in revenue over the past 12 months while working with some of Latin America's largest hospital networks. Funding will also support hiring in product, technology, and sales as the healthtech seeks to increase its presence in Brazil and Mexico.

Matria's Seed round highlights continued investor interest in healthtech startups that address fragmentation in healthcare data. By connecting clinical, operational, and administrative information, the company aims to help hospitals reduce delays and improve patient outcomes through supervised AI agents. With new international backers and expansion underway in Mexico, Matria is positioning itself to grow across Latin America's private healthcare sector.
