Malaysian deep-tech innovator nanoSkunkWorkX (nSWX) has announced the successful closure of a US$2 million seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Tin Men Capital, a prominent regional venture firm, marking its inaugural investment in a Malaysian startup. This capital will fuel the company's mission to commercialize its performance-critical interface technologies for the semiconductor, green hydrogen, and diagnostics sectors.


Tackling Critical Industry Bottlenecks

nSWX addresses fundamental challenges in advanced electronics, particularly the increasing density of AI chip packages. As components become smaller and more powerful, their ability to carry higher currents and dissipate heat becomes a major performance bottleneck. The company's core technology focuses on improving these material interfaces where critical energy and signal losses often occur in modern systems.

Advanced Interface Technology

The startup's lead product, nSD-I, is a thin-film interface engineered to enhance copper interconnects within semiconductor packaging. Peer-reviewed research has demonstrated that its graphene-copper films can move heat more than twice as effectively as standard copper. Crucially, this improvement is achieved without requiring costly changes to existing manufacturing equipment or established industrial processes.

Strategic Allocation of Capital

With the new funding, nSWX will prioritize moving its semiconductor technology into partner qualification, a critical step toward commercial adoption. The capital will also be used to scale its proprietary interface-engineering platform and advance validation programs across Asia. Furthermore, the company plans to make strategic hires to bolster its technical and commercial teams for the next phase of growth.

Diversified High-Impact Applications

Beyond semiconductors, nSWX is leveraging its platform to create solutions for other vital industries. In the green hydrogen space, its technology aims to improve charge transfer and reduce the need for scarce platinum-group metals in electrolyzers. The company is also advancing its diagnostics work through a paid joint research agreement with the US Navy's NAMRU INDOPAC focused on biosensors.

A Testament to Malaysian Innovation

The company was co-founded by CEO Iqbal Shamsul, an MIT-trained computer scientist, and CTO Dr. Amani Salim, a former NASA principal investigator. They returned to Malaysia with the conviction that the country's deep manufacturing expertise could support frontier hardware development. This investment from Tin Men Capital validates their vision and highlights the strength of the regional deep-tech ecosystem.


This US$2 million investment marks a significant milestone for nanoSkunkWorkX, empowering it to transition from promising research to industrial-scale validation. By enhancing the fundamental building blocks of modern technology, the company is poised to lower operational costs for AI and unlock new efficiencies in green energy.
