Lupin Dental, a Montpellier-based robotics company specializing in advanced dental technology, has successfully closed a €15 million Series A financing round. This significant investment was led by the private equity firm Fynveur and is earmarked to accelerate the company's mission to innovate dental care. The funding will support the continued development and commercialization of its robotic solutions designed to enhance precision in complex dental procedures.

Details of the Financing Round

The funding round was spearheaded by Fynveur, which contributed €10 million to the total amount raised. The investment also saw participation from Lupin Dental's existing shareholders and new private investors, demonstrating strong confidence in the company's trajectory. Further financial support was secured through a complementary loan from Bpifrance, bolstering the company's resources for its next growth phase.

As part of the investment agreement, Fynveur and its advisor, Invus, will provide strategic guidance to support Lupin Dental's operations and market positioning. This partnership includes the appointment of a representative from Invus to the company's board of directors. The collaboration aims to leverage Fynveur's extensive experience in scaling high-potential businesses to strengthen Lupin Dental's presence in the dental robotics sector.

Innovating Dental Procedures

Founded in 2019 by esteemed dentists Dr. Galip Gürel and Dr. Stefen Koubi, Lupin Dental aims to introduce supervised automation to aesthetic dentistry. The company's flagship product, the Lupin® Robotic System, is a platform for minimally invasive tooth preparation for veneers. This technology is engineered to improve procedural accuracy, streamline clinical workflows, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes in complex treatments.

The system integrates a sophisticated software suite with a robotic workstation to deliver precise results. Dentists first use the software to design the patient's ideal smile and generate a detailed tooth preparation plan. The robotic workstation then executes this plan with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring the tooth is perfectly prepared for the final restoration.

Strategic Vision and Leadership

Co-founders Dr. Gürel and Dr. Koubi stated that this funding marks a new chapter for the company, reflecting investor confidence in their vision. They emphasized that the capital infusion enables them to accelerate their mission to transform dental care through technological innovation. The company's goal is to make advanced robotic assistance a standard in aesthetic dental practices worldwide.

Lupin Dental has also strengthened its leadership team with key appointments earlier this year. Michel Mayer, former Chairman and CEO of Freescale Semiconductor, was named chairman of the board. Additionally, Philippe Veran, founder and CEO of Biotech Dental, joined as a new board member, bringing extensive experience from the dental technology industry.

Regulatory Milestones and Market Expansion

The company has achieved important regulatory milestones, recently receiving UKCA certification which authorizes the Lupin® Robotic System for commercial use in Great Britain. This follows a prior regulatory clearance obtained in India, where the technology is licensed to Dolphin Lifesciences LLC. However, the system is not yet approved for clinical use in the United States or the European Union.

Looking ahead, Lupin Dental plans to foster widespread adoption of its technology by expanding its strategic partnerships. The company will collaborate with leading academic and medical institutions to further validate its systems. It also aims to work closely with individual dentists and Dental Service Organisations (DSOs) to integrate its robotic platform into clinical practice.

This €15 million Series A round positions Lupin Dental to significantly advance its commercialization and development efforts. The investment not only provides the necessary capital but also brings valuable strategic expertise to guide the company's growth. As Lupin Dental expands its market presence, its innovative robotic system holds the potential to set a new standard for precision and efficiency in aesthetic dentistry.
