Copenhagen-based energy technology startup Lumilab has raised a Pre-Seed funding round led by Giant Ventures. The investment includes participation from GANNI founder Nicolaj Reffstrup, former Danish minister and entrepreneur Tommy Ahlers, and former NVIDIA Senior Director Thomas Skov Reunert. Spun out of research at the University of Copenhagen, Lumilab develops an AI-powered operations platform that connects fragmented data and software systems to monitor energy infrastructure, identify faults, and automate operational workflows through AI agents.
Operational Challenges in Energy Infrastructure
As electric vehicle charging networks, solar installations, and battery storage systems expand, operators face growing demands to monitor and maintain assets across multiple locations. Operational data and workflows are often spread across separate software systems, leaving teams to investigate error logs, identify problems, and coordinate responses manually. Lumilab aims to address these challenges with a shared operations layer that connects data and workflows across energy infrastructure.
How Lumilab's Platform Works
Lumilab's AI agents can monitor assets, detect and investigate issues, and execute actions across connected systems. Human operations teams remain responsible for configuring the agents, establishing rules, and designing workflows, while the agents handle assigned tasks. This approach combines AI-driven task execution with human oversight, allowing operators to determine how agents are deployed and which actions they are permitted to perform.
Growth Traction Across Global Assets
The company reports that its platform has expanded over the past 12 months to support operations across 45,000 assets in more than 30 countries, including Denmark, Germany, the UK, and France. Those assets include electric vehicle chargers, payment terminals, depot equipment, and battery systems. Lumilab says the automation helps operators improve asset reliability and efficiency while reducing manual work.
Funding Details and Investor Support
Giant Ventures led the Pre-Seed round, with additional backing from Nicolaj Reffstrup, Tommy Ahlers, and Thomas Skov Reunert. Nicolaj Reffstrup, Founding Partner at Look Up Ventures, said, "Energy sovereignty depends on reliable, efficient infrastructure. We need intelligent systems like Lumilab to operate it at scale." The company did not disclose the size of the investment.
Planned Use of Capital
Lumilab plans to use the funding to grow its team and expand deployments across global energy infrastructure. The company will focus on supporting operators of electric vehicle charging networks, solar installations, and battery parks. This expansion is intended to help operators manage distributed assets more efficiently and reduce manual work.
Leadership Vision
Sofus Laub Erdal, CEO of Lumilab, said, "We're building applied intelligence for the infrastructure that powers society." He added that the company's AI agents reason through problems and take action across operational systems, with an ambition to help every energy operator run and scale the infrastructure society depends on. The company focuses on helping energy infrastructure operators manage distributed assets and reduce manual work.
The investment arrives as electrification increases the number of charging stations, batteries, and other energy systems that require monitoring and maintenance. Automation could help operators coordinate responses across distributed infrastructure without relying entirely on manual intervention. With new capital, Lumilab is positioned to scale its AI operations layer and support more energy infrastructure operators around the world.
