Kodesage, a startup helping regulated enterprises modernize legacy software, has raised $6.6 million in a seed funding round. The investment was led by VentureFriends, with participation from returning backer Portfolion. The round also attracted notable angel investors, including xAI co-founder Christian Szegedy and World Cup winner Mario Götze, signaling strong confidence in the company's mission.

The Challenge of Aging Enterprise Software

Many critical operations in sectors like banking and insurance rely on software built decades ago in languages such as COBOL. These systems are increasingly difficult to maintain as the original engineers with deep institutional knowledge are retiring. This creates a significant expertise gap and operational risk for these organizations.

Modern artificial intelligence tools cannot easily address this issue because regulated enterprises are prohibited from exposing sensitive code to public cloud AI platforms. This security constraint isolates a vast segment of enterprise software from the latest technological advancements. It significantly slows down essential modernization efforts and perpetuates technical debt.

An On-Premise AI-Powered Solution

Kodesage was built to bridge this gap by bringing AI to these secure environments, operating entirely on-premise or within a client's virtual private cloud. The platform can be deployed in a fully air-gapped setting, performing deep analysis of legacy codebases. This extracts buried business logic without any data ever leaving the organization's perimeter.

This process creates a dynamic knowledge layer that both human engineers and AI agents can utilize to automate modernization tasks. These include system documentation, context-aware code conversion, and automated test generation. The company reports its platform can accelerate migration projects by up to three times while reducing manual documentation workloads by over 80 percent.

Investment and Strategic Growth

The $6.6 million in new capital provides Kodesage with resources to scale its operations and meet growing market demand. Lead investor VentureFriends is joined by returning backer Portfolion and prominent angels like Christian Szegedy and Mario Götze. This funding follows a previous pre-seed round, demonstrating sustained investor belief in the company's unique approach.

With this fresh capital, the company plans to accelerate its go-to-market strategy across the United States and Europe. A significant portion of the funds will also be dedicated to expanding its engineering and product teams. This investment is crucial for enhancing the platform's capabilities and delivering on its ambitious product roadmap.

Vision for Self-Healing Systems

Looking ahead, Kodesage aims to develop self-healing enterprise applications, a concept that could revolutionize system maintenance. Co-founder Gergely Dombi envisions systems where AI agents continuously identify issues, then propose, test, and validate fixes. This would shift engineers from reactive problem-solving to strategic oversight of automated outcomes.

This vision is grounded in a substantial market opportunity, with the legacy modernization sector projected to reach $46.5 billion by 2030. While competitors exist, Kodesage's strict focus on air-gapped deployment provides a key differentiator. Investor Apostolos Apostolakis of VentureFriends praised the team's deep experience and the clear need for their specialized solution.

This successful seed round equips Kodesage to tackle the multi-trillion-dollar challenge of technical debt that plagues established enterprises. The investment validates the company's secure, on-premise AI strategy and positions it for significant growth in a critical market. By enabling organizations to safely modernize their core systems, Kodesage is building a foundational platform for the future of enterprise software.
