Bengaluru-based Kepler Aerospace has raised $8 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of its autonomous satellite infrastructure and deploy its first swarming intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance constellation. The round was led by Blue Ashva Capital and co-led by Finvolve and India Accelerator, with additional investors also participating. The financing supports Kepler’s broader plan to build an integrated space infrastructure platform spanning satellites, avionics, communications, ground systems and mission operations.
Building an Autonomous ISR Constellation
The company plans to use the capital to deploy an initial constellation of six satellites under contracts awarded through India’s Innovations for Defence Excellence, or iDEX, initiative. These spacecraft will carry electro-optical, thermal and electronic-warfare sensors designed to communicate and coordinate with one another while responding autonomously as a unified system. Kepler says the architecture is intended to reduce dependence on ground-station commands and enable faster collection, interpretation and response across intelligence and surveillance missions.
The six-satellite deployment is expected to serve as a precursor to a larger cluster of 64 satellites aimed at providing near-real-time global coverage across the electromagnetic spectrum. Kepler is positioning the project as part of its effort to develop a full-stack space platform rather than operate as a conventional satellite manufacturer. The company’s longer-term model combines spacecraft, payloads, communications systems, ground infrastructure and mission-control capabilities into a single operating environment.
Funding Supports Infrastructure and Expansion
In addition to satellite development, the fresh capital will support launch capabilities, mission-control infrastructure and the expansion of Kepler’s engineering team. The company plans to move into a new facility and add roughly 40 employees over the next 12 to 24 months as it increases its technical and operational capacity. Funding will also support the growth of its Mission Operations as a Service and Avionics as a Service businesses.
Kepler has already secured two iDEX Prime contracts and has received about $4 million in grants through the government-backed defence innovation programme, according to media reports. The company says its mission-operations platform is already used across much of India’s private space sector and that it supports the operation of several ISRO satellites. It also operates a network of more than 70 ground stations providing communications, tracking, telemetry and command services.
Integrated Space Infrastructure Strategy
Founder and CEO Navneet Singh has described the company’s strategy as an effort to make satellites, avionics, ground systems and mission operations function as one coordinated system. That approach reflects a wider shift in the space sector toward more autonomous spacecraft capable of making decisions and coordinating activities without continuous ground intervention. Blue Ashva Capital founder Satya Bansal has highlighted the potential for Kepler’s architecture to allow satellites to task one another and take action while in orbit.
The investment also comes as India’s private space sector continues to expand following regulatory reforms that opened more activities to private companies and established IN-SPACe as an authorising and supervisory body. Government initiatives have included seed support, technology programmes and a Rs 1,000 crore venture capital fund intended to strengthen the domestic space ecosystem. Private investment and startup formation have increased alongside those measures, with Indian spacetech companies raising larger rounds across launch, satellite and space-infrastructure categories.
