Industrial47, a Bengaluru-based pre-seed venture fund founded by Rahul Seth, has raised Rs 85 crore in the first close of its debut fund. The fund is targeting a base corpus of Rs 150 crore with a green shoe option of Rs 50 crore, taking the potential total to Rs 200 crore. The close drew participation from family offices, industrial groups, founders and operators, signalling fresh momentum for India's early-stage deeptech ecosystem.

Focus on frontier technology and strategic infrastructure

The fund plans to write cheques ranging from Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 crore across 15 to 20 startups. Its investment focus spans space systems, defence, energy, maritime intelligence, advanced manufacturing and other frontier technologies. Industrial47 places a pronounced emphasis on national security and strategic infrastructure, supporting founders who build critical capabilities inside India rather than relying on imported systems.

Pre-seed capital for hard problems

Deeptech startups often need more than money at the pre-seed stage; they require patient investors, industry access and partners comfortable with longer product cycles. A defence-tech startup may need funds for hardware testing and certification, while a space-tech startup may require support for simulation and payload development. Industrial47's early-stage capital is designed to help founders build prototypes, hire teams, test products and speak to first customers.

First close draws operators and industry backers

The first close included family offices, industrial groups, founders and operators, with Swiggy co-founder Nandan Reddy also participating. These investors bring more than capital, offering patient support, industry access and technical understanding for longer product cycles. The mix is particularly relevant for deeptech startups that often need time to build prototypes, test products and secure early customers.

Founder's background and vision

Industrial47 was founded in 2024 by Rahul Seth, who previously worked with Antler India and has served with the Indian Army Reserves. He said the current global environment requires every nation to have technological sovereignty, and India has largely outsourced its requirements and imported solutions. He hopes the country will now build the originals, with every rupee in the fund acting as a bet on India's technological self-sufficiency.

Portfolio and investment selection

Industrial47's investment portfolio already includes fusion tech startup Pranos Fusion, deeptech drone startup Armory and autonomous submarine builder RekiSe Marine. Rahul Seth's personal investments include Pixxel, Digantara, PierSight, Alt Carbon, Flam and Anthriq. The fund evaluates technologies not just for commercial potential but also on whether they can become enduring capabilities that India would eventually need to build for itself.

Investor confidence and market context

Nandan Reddy, co-founder of Swiggy, said Rahul Seth's conviction in India's technological future and his instinct for spotting companies that create entirely new private sectors have been remarkable to witness. He added that Seth's service with the armed forces gives him a rare lens on space, energy and defence. The fund will compete and co-invest with other deeptech and early-stage investors such as Speciale Invest, pi Ventures and Blume Ventures.

Industrial47's Rs 85 crore first close shows that investors are paying more attention to India's hard-tech founders. The fund's purpose is clear: back early startups that can build important technology for India in space, defence, energy, maritime systems and advanced manufacturing. If it can find the right founders early, Industrial47 could play a meaningful role in India's next deeptech wave.
