ICON, a global leader in advanced construction technology, announced on October 13, 2026, that it has closed a $200 million Series D funding round. The financing was co-led by Baillie Gifford and funds managed by BlackRock, with participation from Capital Factory, CAZ Investments, Moderne Ventures, Moonshots Capital, Norwest, Overmatch, The Syndicate, and Tiger Global. The new capital will support the manufacturing and deployment of robotic construction systems, a new research and development facility in Austin, and expansion across Texas, Florida, Washington D.C., and other U.S. markets.

A Proven Reality for Intelligent Machines

Jason Ballard, co-founder and CEO of ICON, said the company started with a belief that intelligent machines could fundamentally change how the world builds. He noted that the last decade demonstrated this belief only matters when supported by real structures, real deployments, and real demand. Ballard added that construction automation has moved from potential into proven reality, and the new round puts that capability in builders' hands.

Investor Confidence in Automated Construction

The round reflects growing institutional conviction that construction is ready for intelligent machines. Luke Ward, Private Companies Investment Manager at Baillie Gifford, said the firm looks for large market opportunities paired with patient, compounding execution. He added that ICON's construction system works alongside the business realities that shape project success, allowing builders to take on more work and owners to achieve better value for money.

Addressing a Structural Housing Crisis

ICON is positioning its platform against one of the most consequential economic challenges of this generation. Construction remains a US$16 trillion global industry that has barely changed in half a century, leaving the United States roughly 4 million homes short of demand. At the same time, only 10% of U.S. construction workers are under 25, and 41% of the current workforce is expected to retire by 2031.

Scaling Titan and Advanced Materials

The Series D capital will initiate production and manufacturing of Titan, ICON's multi-story robotic construction system, at the company's Austin factory. The print system is engineered to reduce the construction time of an average home by six weeks at a cost 40% below the national average. FormCrete, ICON's proprietary building material, delivers walls rated for wind speeds above 175 miles per hour and a fire rating of more than two hours, compared with much lower conventional benchmarks.

A Unified Platform Across Build, Tech, and Prime

ICON operates three primary business units that reflect its evolution from homebuilder to scalable construction platform. The Build division delivers residential, commercial, and hospitality structures using advanced robotic systems and materials. The Tech division powers a unified platform for builders, while the Prime division focuses on defense and space missions, including rebuilding military readiness and extending human presence beyond Earth.

Residential and Community Momentum

ICON reports it is on pace for four times revenue growth in 2026. The company has built more than 270 homes and structures across five states and two countries, including Wolf Ranch in Georgetown, Texas, built with Lennar, and over one hundred homes for people experiencing homelessness at Community First! Village in Austin. These projects demonstrate the platform's ability to serve market-rate, affordable, and community-focused housing needs at scale.

Defense and Space Contract Wins

In January 2026, ICON broke ground on 10 barracks at Fort Bliss, marking the largest deployment of robotic construction technology in Department of War history and the first additively manufactured structures to meet the Pentagon's Unified Facilities Criteria. ICON Prime has received more than US$370 million in government contracts. The company continues to advance Project Olympus with NASA to develop construction systems that will build on the Moon.

ICON's Series D round marks a significant milestone in the transition from experimental robotics to mainstream construction capability. The company intends to use the investment to scale Titan production, expand into new U.S. markets, and continue development of lunar construction systems with NASA. Its leaders and investors see this as a path toward ending the global housing crisis within a generation.
