Flok Health, a pioneering AI-operated physiotherapy clinic, has successfully secured $12.5 million in a Series A funding round. The investment, led by AlbionVC, will fuel the company's mission to alleviate pressure on the UK's National Health Service. This capital injection aims to scale its autonomous musculoskeletal care platform and reduce extensive patient waiting lists.
Pioneering Autonomous Healthcare
Flok Health's platform delivers a unique digital clinic experience through a mobile application, simulating a live consultation with a human physiotherapist. The technology utilizes real footage that responds dynamically to a patient's verbal and physical inputs in real time. This innovative system is designed to autonomously manage entire care pathways, from initial diagnosis and treatment to final discharge.
The company has achieved significant regulatory milestones, solidifying its position as a trusted healthcare provider. It is the first digital MSK service approved by the UK’s Care Quality Commission and holds a Class IIa medical device certification in Europe. These credentials permit the platform to deliver complete care pathways without direct human clinician oversight, a first for the continent.
Addressing the NHS Supply-Demand Gap
The UK healthcare system faces a critical supply-demand imbalance, particularly in musculoskeletal services where over 390,000 patients are on waiting lists in England alone. This immense pressure on clinical teams results in significant delays for patients seeking treatment for common but debilitating conditions. Flok Health's technology directly confronts this challenge by providing immediate, on-demand access to care for conditions like back pain.
Early deployments across eleven NHS regions have demonstrated remarkable success, making the service available to over 2.4 million patients. In one rollout, the AI clinic halved waiting lists and saved an average of 856 clinical hours per month. Furthermore, over 80 percent of patients reported the experience was as good as or better than traditional in-person physiotherapy.
Strategic Investment and Future Expansion
Lead investor AlbionVC highlighted the platform's proven ability to deliver autonomous care at scale without compromising patient outcomes. Leigh Brody of AlbionVC noted the company's success in navigating a complex regulatory environment and earning the trust of NHS partners. The round also saw participation from existing backers Eka VC and Form Ventures, alongside new investor Mercia Ventures.
With the new funding, Flok Health plans to aggressively scale its existing back pain service across the UK. The capital will also finance the development of new AI-managed pathways for high-demand areas like hip and knee pain. Additionally, the company is launching a new service focused on women's pelvic health conditions later this year.
Co-founder and CEO Finn Stevenson emphasized that AI presents a generational opportunity to solve the fundamental supply-demand mismatch in healthcare. He stated the goal is to ensure anyone can receive the best possible care whenever they need it. The team is proud of the incredible results already being seen for both patients and NHS services.
This $12.5 million investment marks a pivotal moment for Flok Health, validating its innovative approach to healthcare delivery. The company is now strongly positioned to expand its impact, offering a scalable solution to the chronic issue of healthcare accessibility. By leveraging autonomous AI, Flok Health is not just treating patients but is actively reshaping the future of physiotherapy.
