Egyptian healthtech innovator Reme-D has successfully closed a $1.45 million Pre-Series A funding round to advance its diagnostic solutions. The investment was led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund and Africa Health Ventures. This capital injection will fuel the company's mission to make advanced molecular diagnostics more accessible across Africa and other underserved markets.

Addressing Critical Healthcare Gaps

Reme-D was founded to address significant healthcare disparities by developing affordable and temperature-resilient diagnostic tests. The company focuses on critical diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and HPV, which is a leading cause of cervical cancer. Its innovative approach ensures that advanced testing can reach remote locations with limited infrastructure.

Since its establishment in 2023, the company has made remarkable progress by commercializing 30 distinct diagnostic products. It has already supplied over 550,000 tests to clients in Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. Reme-D serves a wide range of institutions, including public and private laboratories, hospitals, and research centers.

Strategic Expansion and Growth

The new funding is earmarked for a significant operational scale-up, including a move to a new 1,500-square-meter facility. This transition, coupled with upgraded equipment, is projected to increase the company's manufacturing capacity tenfold. This expansion supports the rapid growth of its team, which has already expanded from five to fifty employees.

A key part of the company's strategy involves broadening its product portfolio to include new diagnostic areas. Reme-D plans to introduce tests for genetic diseases and various types of cancer. This development will further enhance its contribution to comprehensive healthcare solutions in the regions it serves.

Beyond product development, the investment will bolster Reme-D's regional footprint across the African continent. The company aims to strengthen its market access while simultaneously enhancing its quality and regulatory compliance capabilities. This ensures its solutions meet international standards as it continues to grow.

Investor Confidence and Vision

Lead investor Anara Impact Capital expressed strong confidence in Reme-D's unique capabilities and vision. Mohamed Hussain, a principal at the firm, praised the team's ability to merge deep scientific expertise with a practical understanding of underserved markets. He highlighted the company's success in developing high-quality molecular diagnostics locally.

Founder and CEO Salma Tammam reiterated that the company's ultimate goal is to eliminate barriers to life-saving diagnoses for patients. She expressed pride in showcasing the contributions of African science and female leadership to the global community. Tammam is grateful for the support of investors who share this vision for real-world impact.

A recent notable achievement includes equipping a custom-made, solar-powered mobile laboratory for the WHO Egypt country office. This innovative unit supports the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s efforts to monitor vector-borne diseases in remote areas. The project exemplifies Reme-D's commitment to providing practical solutions for challenging healthcare environments.

This $1.45 million investment marks a pivotal moment for Reme-D, empowering it to scale its operations and deepen its impact. The funding will accelerate the production and distribution of affordable, high-quality diagnostics where they are needed most. Ultimately, Reme-D is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening healthcare systems and improving patient outcomes across the Global South.
