The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and MINT by EGBANK have signed a memorandum of understanding to support financial technology innovation and expand entrepreneurs’ engagement with Egypt’s capital markets. The agreement brings together the exchange’s market expertise and the bank-backed accelerator’s experience working with startups and young entrepreneurs. Their collaboration will center on a fintech hackathon, financial education, and opportunities for selected startups to receive guidance from EGX.
A Partnership Linking Startups and Capital Markets
The agreement was signed by EGX Chairman Omar Radwan and EGBANK First Deputy CEO Ibrahim Abaza. The signing took place in the presence of Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, EGX Vice Chairman Mohamed Sabry, and representatives of financial institutions. The initiative reflects an effort to strengthen connections between Egypt’s banking sector, capital markets, and entrepreneurial community.
Under the partnership, EGX will contribute its knowledge of financial markets and the rules governing their operation, while MINT will draw on its established role in supporting entrepreneurship. Together, the organizations intend to help founders understand how capital markets function and what opportunities they may offer growing companies. The agreement outlines support and educational activities rather than announcing a new investment fund or financing commitment.
Hackathon to Encourage Market-Focused Solutions
One of the partnership’s central initiatives is the MINT × EGX Hackathon, which will focus on investment and trading. It is intended to encourage participating startups to develop technology-based solutions addressing practical challenges and emerging needs within the capital market. By aligning entrepreneurial ideas with market requirements, the initiative aims to stimulate fintech development relevant to financial institutions and investors.
The hackathon will also create a setting in which startup teams can explore financial-market problems with input from stakeholders familiar with the sector. Its focus on investment and trading gives participating entrepreneurs a defined area for developing and testing their ideas. The announcement did not specify application dates, selection criteria, prize amounts, or how many startups will participate.
Financial Literacy for Young Entrepreneurs
The second initiative is a Financial Literacy Hub offering specialized educational sessions developed by MINT in cooperation with EGX. The courses will cover financial independence, personal money management, and approaches to investing through regulated channels. They are designed to improve understanding of financial decisions among young people, aspiring investors, and entrepreneurs.
Alongside investment concepts, the training will address how financial planning relates to professional development and longer-term economic security. Organizers expect these sessions to help participants evaluate financial choices more carefully and approach investment opportunities with greater awareness of associated rules. The educational component broadens the partnership beyond startup development by targeting people who may be engaging with financial markets for the first time.
Mentorship and Regulatory Guidance for Startups
Selected startups will be offered opportunities to connect with EGX through networking and mentorship activities. These interactions are expected to provide insight into capital-market requirements, relevant regulatory considerations, and potential pathways for business expansion. For founders building financial products, access to this expertise could help clarify how their solutions fit within Egypt’s existing market framework.
The support is intended to improve startups’ understanding of market structures and the expectations they may encounter as they grow. Although the agreement points to closer engagement between entrepreneurs and the exchange, it does not guarantee investment, regulatory approval, or a future stock-market listing for participants. Details of the mentorship format and the process for selecting beneficiaries have not yet been made public.
The EGX and MINT by EGBANK agreement establishes a framework for combining entrepreneurial support with financial-market education and specialist guidance. Through the proposed hackathon, literacy courses, and mentorship opportunities, the partners aim to encourage fintech solutions while making capital-market knowledge more accessible. Its impact will depend on how these initiatives are implemented and whether participating startups can translate the support into commercially relevant products and sustainable growth.
