Saudi payment technology company EdfaPay and Sudanese information technology firm GoPravo have officially launched SDPay, a joint venture established to develop and operate digital payment infrastructure across Sudan. The new company is owned equally by the two partners and is headquartered in Khartoum. It will serve banks, telecommunications operators, merchants, government entities, and individuals throughout the country.

Combined Expertise and Market Focus

SDPay combines EdfaPay's payment technology and infrastructure capabilities with GoPravo's local market knowledge, licenses, relationships, and operational execution capacity. The Saudi company has expanded into markets including Pakistan, Brazil, Tunisia, and Morocco, and it operates under a license from the Saudi Central Bank with PCI DSS and ISO 27001 certifications. GoPravo contributes a founding partner role and deep insight into Sudan's regulatory and commercial environment.

Payment Services for Merchants and Consumers

The joint venture will enable merchants to accept digital payments through QR codes, point-of-sale devices, payment processing services, and online payment gateways. Consumers will have access to digital wallets, banking services, account aggregation, financial management tools, and payment card issuance. SDPay also plans to offer Processing-as-a-Service to support financial institutions with scalable infrastructure.

Government and Cross-Border Solutions

SDPay will provide bill payment and government collection services, along with integration with payroll disbursement platforms. It will also support international money transfers to help reduce the cost of remittances reaching beneficiary families. For government entities, the company plans to deliver digital payments infrastructure and embedded finance solutions that improve public service transactions.

Security, Integration, and Compliance

The company will offer API integrations, digital identity connectivity, and electronic Know Your Customer verification to help clients manage their businesses securely. Its capabilities include fraud monitoring, risk management, 3D Secure authentication, financial settlement, reconciliation, and analytics. These tools are designed to connect banks, digital wallets, telecom operators, and government collection systems that currently operate separately.

Leadership Perspective

Ghormallah AlGhamdi, Chairman of SDPay and CEO of EdfaPay, said Sudan has skilled human resources, widespread mobile penetration, and a need for a modern payments ecosystem. He added that the partnership aims to deliver infrastructure grounded in international standards while being managed and operated from within Sudan. AlGhamdi also noted that the goal is to make a tangible impact by accelerating merchant payments and reducing the cost of remittances reaching families.

Mohamed Elhag, CEO of SDPay, said demand for digital financial services in Sudan remains strong, but integration is the main challenge. He explained that banks, digital wallets, telecom operators, and government collection systems often run on separate platforms. SDPay combines EdfaPay's technology and regulatory expertise with GoPravo's local market knowledge, licenses, relationships, and execution capabilities to connect these services.

A Foundation for Sudan's Digital Economy

SDPay is structured as a registered and capitalized company headquartered in Khartoum's Burri district and was established in 2026. Its creation reflects a long-term commitment to building a connected digital financial ecosystem in Sudan. By providing shared infrastructure, the venture aims to support banks, merchants, government entities, and individuals in a unified payments environment.

The launch of SDPay marks an important step toward modernizing Sudan's financial services sector through shared payment infrastructure. By combining Saudi fintech innovation with Sudanese execution capacity, the partnership aims to accelerate merchant payments, lower remittance costs, and expand access to digital financial tools. The venture's registered presence in Khartoum reflects a sustained commitment to supporting the country's economic and financial inclusion goals.
