Dougs, a French accounting and financial management platform for small businesses, has secured a €50 million funding round led by existing investor Expedition Growth Capital. The Lyon-based company announced the investment on October 15, 2026, with plans to scale toward €100 million in annual recurring revenue and 100,000 customers. The new capital will support further development of agentic accounting and automation technology.
Funding and Growth Ambitions
Dougs currently serves more than 50,000 businesses and generates more than €50 million in annual recurring revenue. The company has grown at an annual rate above 50% for a decade, has been profitable since inception, and was self-funded until its first funding round in 2023. With the new investment, Dougs aims to reinforce its position in France and move closer to its target of €100 million in ARR.
Technology-Led Services Model
Founded by chartered accountants in 2015, Dougs operates as a technology company that directly delivers regulated accounting and financial management services. Unlike software providers that sell tools to accounting firms, Dougs owns the client relationship and takes responsibility for the work. Its proprietary technology and automation have produced gross margins above 80%, compared with margins below 50% that are typical in the accounting industry.
Agentic Accounting and AI Expansion
AI is already embedded in Dougs' accounting production, and the company currently completes bookkeeping workflows through AI. It is now developing agentic systems capable of handling an increasing share of accounting production autonomously. The next milestone is agentically produced financial statements that are checked and signed by a chartered accountant.
Executive Views
Patrick Maurice, CEO and co-founder, said that Dougs is staffed by chartered accountants who also write their own software. He explained that this direct experience allows the company to automate accounting production with a clear understanding of quality standards. Maurice added that the funding will help complete production automation and free up time for closer client relationships.
Florent Galland, COO and co-founder, noted that Dougs built its own agentic platform that plugs directly into its tools and encodes accounting expertise. He said accountants already use the system daily and that it runs entire stages of production end to end. Galland stated that AI handles the heavy lifting while chartered accountants provide professional judgment.
Investor Outlook and Market Opportunity
Oliver Thomas, managing partner at Expedition Growth Capital, said artificial intelligence is radically transforming services, but its impact is greatest when supported by deep domain expertise. He described Dougs as a rare fusion of deterministic code, frontier AI, and certified professionals in the accountancy industry. France represents a market worth more than €20 billion across accounting and adjacent services, including approximately €1.5 billion in Dougs' core market today.
Platform Scope and Market Position
Dougs' platform covers company formation, accounting, legal, payroll, invoicing through a certified e-invoicing platform, a business account, and wealth management through a dedicated subsidiary. The company combines a web application that syncs directly with banks with personalized follow-up from multidisciplinary teams. Its hybrid model pairs technology with human advice from chartered accountants, legal experts, tax specialists, and other professionals.
With €50 million in new funding, Dougs is accelerating its shift from automated bookkeeping to agentic accounting at scale. The company's combination of proprietary software, regulatory status as a chartered accounting firm, and a growing base of more than 50,000 businesses positions it to shape the next generation of accountancy in Europe. By investing in AI workflows and client-facing expertise, Dougs aims to become France's largest chartered accounting business.
