Paris-based quantum software specialist ColibriTD has successfully closed a €4 million Seed funding round to advance its multiphysics simulation platform. The investment was led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with notable participation from SymbiaVC and Medin VC. This new capital injection follows an earlier €1 million pre-Seed investment from Earlybird, signaling strong continued confidence in the company's vision to deliver tangible quantum computing value to industrial clients.

The Strategic Importance of Quantum Software

While quantum hardware advancements often capture headlines, ColibriTD is focused on the critical software layer that translates processing power into industrial solutions. The company has developed a hardware-agnostic platform designed to connect quantum capabilities with complex enterprise challenges. This approach ensures compatibility with leading providers like IBM, AWS Braket, and IONQ, allowing clients to leverage the best available hardware as the ecosystem evolves.

Dr. Frédéric Du Bois-Reymond, Venture Partner at Earlybird Venture Capital, emphasized the software's pivotal role in value creation. He stated that ColibriTD has built a differentiated platform with the scientific credibility and industrial traction to become the decision layer for quantum applications. Earlybird expressed pride in continuing to support the team on its journey to unlock the potential of quantum computing for industry.

Pioneering Practical Quantum Applications

At the core of ColibriTD's technology is H-DES, a proprietary variational quantum algorithm designed to solve partial differential equations (PDEs). These equations are the mathematical foundation for multiphysics simulations, governing complex phenomena from fluid dynamics to financial risk modeling. The company asserts that neither classical computing nor AI can fully address the precision required for these high-stakes industrial engineering problems.

The company has already demonstrated its platform's effectiveness through seven successful co-construction projects across six computationally demanding sectors. These collaborations in defense, aerospace, semiconductor design, and quantitative finance involved engineering teams seeking solutions to real-world problems. This track record proves that quantum-powered simulation is a present-day capability rather than a distant future promise for industrial applications.

Validating a Niche Focus

When founded in 2019 by Laurent Guiraud and Hacène Goudjil, ColibriTD's specialized focus on PDEs was a calculated bet that has since been validated by the wider industry. Global leaders in the quantum ecosystem now recognize that solving PDEs is a key application where quantum computers can provide significant near-term advantages. This alignment confirms the company's strategic foresight in targeting a critical area of computational science.

This industry validation is further solidified by a partnership with IBM, a leader in the quantum field. ColibriTD's QUICK-PDE Qiskit Function is now available in the Qiskit Function Catalogue for IBM Quantum users. Scott Crowder, Vice President at IBM Quantum, noted that the solver is an important tool for experts exploring quantum-classical workflows to address computationally costly challenges in science and industry.

Fueling Future Growth and Expansion

The €4 million in new funding will be strategically deployed to accelerate ColibriTD's growth and technological development. The capital is earmarked for further research and development of the H-DES algorithm and for recruiting top-tier quantum researchers and domain-expert engineers. The investment will also support the expansion of hardware access, academic partnerships, and international growth to prepare the company for scale.

Dr. Laurent Guiraud, co-founder and CEO, stated that the company has reached an inflection point, proving its technology's value. He explained that this seed round accelerates their momentum as they scale the platform to help more enterprises capture a quantum advantage. ColibriTD is now actively seeking new co-construction partners in finance, defense, aerospace, and energy to explore quantum simulation.

With this significant seed funding, ColibriTD is strongly positioned to solidify its leadership in the quantum software market. The company's proven success in applying quantum algorithms to solve complex industrial problems demonstrates a clear path from academic theory to tangible business value. As enterprises across critical sectors seek a competitive edge, ColibriTD's platform offers a practical gateway to the transformative power of quantum simulation.
