Clinical artificial intelligence startup Certuma has started operations in Argentina after closing a US$10 million seed round led by 8VC. Founded in Austin, Texas in December 2025 by Argentine Spanish entrepreneur Martin Varsavsky, the company is expanding across Latin America under Bruno Marino, its Head of LATAM. Certuma enters the region with a clinical AI assistant that has already processed more than one million medical consultations in the United States.

A clinical copilot for physicians

Certuma Copilot is built on MedCanon, a proprietary clinical reasoning engine developed by the company. The tool records and organizes information during medical consultations while assisting with clinical reasoning and automating administrative work. In Argentina, where diagnosis and prescription remain exclusive to licensed physicians, the platform operates strictly as a clinical assistant and does not make autonomous medical decisions.

Evidence from the United States

Similar AI documentation tools have produced measurable results at The Permanente Medical Group, part of Kaiser Permanente. The organization recorded more than 2.5 million uses per year and saved over 15,700 hours of medical documentation time. Physician adoption of artificial intelligence in the United States also climbed from 38 percent in 2023 to 81 percent, according to the American Medical Association.

Regional shortages and market growth

Certuma's regional launch responds to a structural deficit in Latin American health systems. The Pan American Health Organization projects a shortage of between 600,000 and 2 million health workers across Latin America and the Caribbean by 2030. Argentina adds its own pressures, including a heavy concentration of medical institutions in Buenos Aires and widening gaps in medical residency positions across the country.

Funding allocation and regulatory path

The global market for AI clinical documentation reached US$1,230 million in 2025 and could grow to US$12,780 million by 2035, with a compound annual growth rate of 26 percent. Certuma will use its seed capital to scale the platform, strengthen clinical infrastructure, and advance regulatory approvals. The company is pursuing clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration and homologation before Argentina's ANMAT.

Leadership and future ambitions

Martin Varsavsky brings more than three decades of serial entrepreneurship to Certuma. He previously founded telecommunications companies Jazztel and Viatel, autonomous mobility venture Goggo Network, and reproductive health firms Prelude Fertility, Overture Life, and Gameto. Certuma integrates that regulated medical technology experience with an AI roadmap that could eventually seek authorization for certain low risk clinical decisions under regulatory oversight.

Compliance and regional expansion

Certuma operates in Argentina under existing health data and digital health regulations while preparing for formal approvals. The company plans to serve institutions across Latin America, with Argentina and Chile identified as early markets. Its immediate strategy focuses on AI assisted consultations rather than autonomous clinical decision making, although longer term goals remain broader.

Certuma's launch in Argentina signals a growing role for artificial intelligence in reducing clinical workloads and expanding access across Latin America. With seed funding, proven early usage, and parallel regulatory efforts in the United States and Argentina, the company is positioning itself as a regional clinical AI provider. For now, its model keeps physicians in control of medical decisions while laying the foundation for broader transformation of routine care.
