Brilliant Labs, Neuphonic, and TheStage AI have formed a strategic partnership to develop a new generation of AI-powered smart glasses. This collaboration aims to shift AI processing from the cloud directly onto the wearable device, addressing critical issues of data privacy and latency. The resulting product, named Halo, is positioned to offer a more secure and responsive user experience than current market offerings.

A New Paradigm for Wearable AI

Current AI wearables often rely on cloud computing for tasks like image and audio analysis, which can introduce delays and expose sensitive user data. This model requires transmitting personal information to remote servers, raising significant privacy concerns in an era of always-on cameras and microphones. The new alliance seeks to fundamentally change this architecture by embedding intelligence directly within the hardware for enhanced security.

Brilliant Labs is spearheading this initiative with its open-source eyewear platform and upcoming Halo glasses. CEO Bobak Tavangar emphasized the importance of a privacy-first approach, stating a desire to build trustworthy systems that do not monetize personal data. By embracing an open-source model, the company invites transparency and allows for independent scrutiny of its technology.

The Technology Powering On-Device Conversation

Neuphonic provides the crucial conversational interface for the Halo glasses, enabling natural, human-like interactions. Their advanced speech models and ultra-low-latency text-to-speech technology operate locally, eliminating the lag associated with cloud processing. Neuphonic CEO Sohaib Ahmad noted that for a conversation to feel real, it must be immediate and completely private.

TheStage AI supplies the essential optimization engine that makes this on-device processing possible. Their core technology, ANNA, acts as a bridge, ensuring Neuphonic’s complex AI models run efficiently without rapidly draining the battery. CEO Kirill Solodskikh explained that their engine manages peak memory and power consumption to deliver instantaneous responses on the device.

Redefining the Smart Glass Experience

The Halo glasses are set to introduce several innovative features powered by this on-device architecture. These include a context-aware conversational AI that can see and hear in real time, along with a private memory function to recall past events. Additionally, a "Vibe Mode" will allow users to generate custom AI mini-applications through natural language commands.

This partnership places a profound emphasis on data security by ensuring all visual and audio inputs are processed locally. Raw point-of-view data never leaves the user's phone or glasses, as it is converted into encrypted embeddings on the device. This stands in stark contrast to the data-handling practices of major platforms that depend on remote servers for analysis.

Market Implications and Future Outlook

This collaboration presents a direct challenge to the cloud-dependent ecosystems of tech giants like Meta and Snap. By prioritizing user privacy and on-device performance, the companies are catering to a growing market demand for more secure personal technology. Their approach aligns with increasing scrutiny over how large corporations handle data from always-on AI systems.

Brilliant Labs has announced that the Halo glasses, integrating Neuphonic's voice AI, will be available in the first quarter of 2026 for $349. This follows the company's earlier release of the Frame smart glasses, which also championed on-device processing and an open-source platform. The consistent strategy signals a firm commitment to establishing a new standard for privacy in the wearables market.

The partnership between Brilliant Labs, Neuphonic, and TheStage AI marks a significant step toward a more secure and responsive future for wearable AI. By combining specialized hardware, advanced conversational models, and efficient on-device optimization, they are creating a compelling alternative to cloud-based systems. This initiative champions user control and data privacy, setting a new benchmark for trust and performance in the personal computing landscape.
