Boomi, the data activation company for AI, announced on October 19, 2026, that it has acquired Elementary Data, a provider of unified data observability, quality, governance, and discovery technology. The acquisition brings widely adopted data reliability capabilities natively into the Boomi Enterprise Platform, which enterprises use to activate data for AI and agentic workflows. The move is intended to help organizations operationalize AI with trusted, well-governed, and contextualized data at scale.

Why Data Reliability Has Become an AI Bottleneck

As enterprises scale AI and agentic workflows, data reliability has shifted from a back-office concern to a potential single point of failure for entire systems. A Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Boomi in July 2026 found that 86% of leaders had moved beyond AI agent pilots, yet only 34% said they trust the actions their agentic systems take. The same study reported that organizations deploying agents before they were ready faced an average of $2.1 million in added cost.

Elementary's Open Source Foundation

Elementary was founded in 2022 and began as an open source project that has been adopted by more than 1,500 data teams. It now records over 1.1 million monthly downloads and supports a community of roughly 4,000 members, reflecting strong traction among modern data teams. In 2024, Elementary launched Elementary Cloud, adding enterprise-grade capabilities on top of its open source foundation to help teams scale observability and governance.

What the Combined Platform Delivers

Following the acquisition, Boomi customers will gain access to agent-driven pipeline monitoring that autonomously detects freshness, volume, and quality anomalies before they reach downstream assets. Column-level lineage will span ingestion, transformation, semantic layers, business intelligence, and AI, while governance and discovery features include a shared catalog, ownership, tags, and health scores. An MCP server will expose data context and health to AI tools and agents, and AI agents will automate test creation, incident triage, governance, and performance optimization.

Executive Perspectives on Trusted Data

Boomi Chairman and CEO Steve Lucas stated that AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it, and Elementary adds the observability, quality, and governance layer required for enterprise-ready AI. Elementary CEO Maayan Salom said data teams deserve the same reliability tooling as software engineering teams, and AI made that conviction urgent. Salom added that joining Boomi, with 30,000 customers and 800 partners, allows Elementary to make trusted data the default for the AI era.

Strategic Value for the Boomi Enterprise Platform

Elementary is Boomi's latest acquisition following Lunar.dev and strengthens the Boomi Enterprise Platform's Active Data Foundation, which continuously moves, grounds, and governs data. The foundation delivers data with context to the applications, devices, and agents that need it, putting data in motion rather than treating it as a static resource. This approach supports Boomi's strategy to provide essential agentic infrastructure and drive agentic transformation for enterprises.

The acquisition positions Boomi to address a core challenge in enterprise AI: ensuring that AI agents act on timely, accurate, and well-governed data. By embedding Elementary's observability and reliability tools into the Boomi Enterprise Platform, the company aims to close the data reliability gap that can stall AI in production. For organizations scaling agentic workflows, the deal signals that trusted data is becoming a foundational requirement rather than an afterthought.
