Augur, a UK sovereign software analytics platform designed to protect people in the places they live, work, travel, and gather, has secured new investment. The company focuses on transforming legacy sensing infrastructure so operators can detect, prevent, and investigate threats and incidents to public safety more quickly. The announcement highlights the platform's role in making Britain's critical national infrastructure more resilient to the threats it faces on an almost daily basis.

Platform Capabilities and Privacy by Design

Augur has developed advanced detection and tracking capability that changes how systems understand the movement of people and objects in space. Using AI and machine learning, the platform detects anomalous behavior and tracks incidents across multiple sensors, reconstructing them in seconds. This allows operators to intercept a potential threat before it causes harm, while the technology is designed with privacy at its core and built in compliance with UK GDPR and the EU AI Act from the ground up.

Integration with Existing Sensing Infrastructure

Augur integrates with legacy infrastructure, enabling operators to benefit quickly without the need to replace expensive cameras and sensors. The platform is intuitive and adaptable, and it can be tailored to the specific requirements of end users. By surfacing key information rather than making final decisions, the system empowers operators to assess incidents and act with appropriate human judgment.

Human Oversight and Operator Control

The platform is built to ensure that human operators remain central to decision making at all times. It surfaces critical information for assessment and action, but it never replaces the judgment of trained personnel. This approach strengthens public safety responses while maintaining accountability, oversight, and trust in the automated technology.

Partnership with Transport for London

Augur is already being developed for real-world public safety applications, including a research partnership with Transport for London. Machine learning engineers from Augur will work with Transport for London to identify types of sexual offending and explore how the technology could support early intervention and evidence gathering. The initial focus is on detecting sexual offenses and harassment against women and girls on the London bus network.

Broader Public Safety and National Security Use Cases

Other planned applications apply across public safety and national security. These include helping police trace the movements of an abducted child across multiple locations and keeping women and girls safe on public transport. The technology could also identify potential acts of terrorism or sabotage before they occur, providing operators with early warning and actionable information.

Access to Isambard-AI and Model Development

Alongside the investment, Sovereign AI is giving Augur access to Isambard-AI, the UK's most powerful AI supercomputer. Augur will use this resource to train on much larger and more complex multi-camera datasets, improving how its models interpret a scene as it moves across locations. The additional computational capability is expected to strengthen the platform's real-world performance.

Strategic Importance of Sovereign Technology

The investor stated that Britain needs this capability and should own it. The infrastructure is already in place, and the technology that helps keep people safe should be built locally by teams that combine stronger security with privacy safeguards. The investment reflects a broader push to reduce dependence on foreign systems for critical national security and public safety tools.

The investment in Augur signals growing momentum behind sovereign public safety technology that pairs advanced AI with strong privacy protections. By leveraging existing infrastructure and providing access to Isambard-AI, the partnership aims to accelerate deployments across transport, law enforcement, and critical national infrastructure. The announcement underscores a commitment to developing accountable, human-centered tools that are built and owned in the UK.
