Aligned Climate Capital has announced the first close of Aligned Solar Partners 7, a new infrastructure fund that targets $500 million in commitments. The fund will focus on acquiring and building distributed solar and energy storage projects across the United States. Its initial close includes commitments from existing investors in the firm’s Aligned Solar Partners strategy, including the Bush Foundation.
Fund Strategy and Mandate
Aligned Solar Partners 7 will invest in construction-ready solar and storage projects sourced from development partners. The firm plans to finance project construction and manage the assets through their operational life. This mandate builds on a distributed energy infrastructure strategy that Aligned has operated since 2018 across six prior funds.
Portfolio Track Record
Through June 30, 2026, the six prior funds had acquired 56 projects across 10 states. The operating portfolio has generated more than 218 gigawatt hours of clean energy. Recent activity includes construction financing for two community solar projects in Delaware and the acquisition of a community solar project in Illinois.
Investment Pipeline
Aligned expects to begin making investments through Aligned Solar Partners 7 in the coming months. The firm has already identified more than 500 megawatts of potential projects for the fund from its network of development partners. This pipeline provides a visible set of near-term opportunities while the fund continues to raise additional commitments.
Market Opportunity
Aligned is targeting a segment of the energy market that is becoming increasingly important as U.S. electricity demand rises. Data center development, industrial reshoring, and transportation electrification are major drivers of renewed power demand. At the same time, new natural gas generation faces multi-year turbine delivery timelines, creating an opening for faster solar and battery storage projects.
Middle Market Focus
Solar and storage now account for the majority of new generating capacity being added in the United States. Aligned believes the middle market represents a particularly important portion of that buildout because many smaller distributed projects require specialized financing and operational expertise. The firm’s Aligned Solar Partners strategy acquires distributed solar, storage, and other clean energy infrastructure rather than solely investing in developers or technology companies.
Leadership Commentary
Peter Davidson, chief executive officer of Aligned Climate Capital, said, "Distributed solar and energy storage are now among the fastest ways to add reliable capacity to the grid, and the middle market is where much of that build-out actually happens." He added that these projects need specialized financing and execution, which the firm was built to provide. The continued support from investors gives the firm the capital to keep acquiring and building construction-ready projects.
Investor Perspective
Brendon Reay, managing director of investments at the Bush Foundation, said, "We believe investment capital can support meaningful climate solutions while advancing our long-term investment objectives." He added that the investment in Aligned’s distributed solar and storage infrastructure strategy reflects the foundation’s commitment to impactful sustainability solutions. This investor support underscores the appeal of the fund’s infrastructure approach.
Firm Overview
Aligned Climate Capital manages approximately $2.2 billion of assets as of December 31, 2025. The firm focuses exclusively on companies and projects supporting the clean energy transition. Its two principal strategies include the Aligned Climate Fund, which invests in venture-stage clean energy companies, and Aligned Solar Partners, which owns and operates distributed energy infrastructure.
The first close of Aligned Solar Partners 7 positions the firm to expand its distributed energy infrastructure portfolio as demand for clean power accelerates. With a $500 million target, a 500-megawatt pipeline, and backing from existing limited partners, Aligned has a foundation for continued deployment in the middle market. The fund’s focus on construction-ready solar and storage assets addresses a growing need for reliable, quickly deployable electric capacity.
