Serial entrepreneur Ajeet Singh, who previously co-founded Nutanix and ThoughtSpot, has announced his third venture, Different. The AI-powered martech startup has emerged from stealth mode with a US$48 million Seed funding round, equivalent to nearly ₹4.53 billion. General Catalyst led the round, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, while former Asana executive Abhishek Pani and former PharmEasy chief technology and product officer Abhinav Yajurvedi have joined as cofounders.

Seed Funding and Founding Team

The Seed round was led by General Catalyst and included participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners. Different has teams in San Francisco and Bengaluru, according to its website. Singh described the company in a LinkedIn post as an AI marketing system that runs demand generation end-to-end for lean B2B marketing teams.

Addressing Marketing Bottlenecks

Different targets common enterprise bottlenecks such as hiring specialized talent, engaging multiple external agencies, and managing disparate software tools. Its AI platform plans, creates, executes, and scales personalized content across channels according to the business context, strategy, audience, and other parameters specified by the user. The system learns from results and adjusts accordingly to optimize performance over time.

Early Customers and Product Validation

Before its public launch, Different tested its services with early corporate customers, including software firms Descope and Motif. This early validation indicates that the platform can support practical demand generation requirements for technology companies. The company's focus on lean B2B marketing teams positions it to serve organizations that need efficient, AI-driven campaign execution without large internal teams.

AI-Driven Market Opportunity

Different is entering a martech landscape where AI adoption is becoming a strategic priority for B2B organizations. By offering an end-to-end system that plans, creates, executes, and optimizes campaigns, the company aims to reduce reliance on fragmented tools and external agencies. This integrated approach could differentiate it in a market that often requires separate platforms for content, analytics, and channel execution.

Founder's Entrepreneurial History

Singh is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta and has held roles at Oracle, Honeywell, and PwC. He cofounded Nutanix in 2009, a hybrid cloud unicorn that listed on the Nasdaq in 2016. Singh stepped down from Nutanix in 2012 to launch ThoughtSpot, an AI-powered analytics platform that has raised over US$670 million and was last valued at nearly US$4.5 billion.

A Wider Wave of New Ventures

The launch comes at a time when a growing number of founders are starting new businesses in the technology sector. Last month, Livspace founder Saurabh Jain and former executive Lalit Mittal launched Gravity, while Zeta founder Bhavin Turakhia launched AI startup Neo in May with US$30 million. Healthians founder Deepak Sahni is building UN:BLOC in stealth mode, and BharatPe cofounder Shashvat Nakrani was reported in April to be joining Luxury For You.

Different enters the martech landscape with significant early capital, an experienced founding team, and a clear focus on AI-driven demand generation for lean B2B teams. The startup's approach addresses persistent inefficiencies in marketing execution and could appeal to companies seeking streamlined operations. Its launch also reflects a broader trend of proven founders returning to entrepreneurship with AI-focused ventures.
